Ali vs Xbox

Posted on 28. Apr, 2006 by zerolight in Family

Today Ali discovered how to turn on the Xbox. I was worried that he might break it, now I’m more worried he’ll be trying to break my high scores! He’s already got an unhealthy fascination with my Xbox 360 pad, all he needs to do now is figure out how to turn on the television. His first words are likely to be “Humiliation!”, “Triple Kill!”, and “Finish Him!”.

Black – Xbox

The latest game to hit the Xbox (not the 360) is Black. There’s a demo on this months OXM, and the full game is due out on Friday. The hype on the net has been spinning Black as more next-gen (graphically) than the average 360 game. It’s supposed to be a graphical workhorse that rivals anything on the 360. It’s not. As you’d expect, it’s all just hype.

How does it compare to the average Xbox game? That’s hard for me to say. I’ve not played an XBox game since 2nd December when the 360 launched. All I can say is that I fired up Black expecting fireworks and got last-gen entertainment. Washed out textures, clunky animation, jaggies and low resolution gameplay. It looked dated. It’s amazing how fast the XBox and PS2 have become old hat.

In fairness, it’s supposed to have adrenalin fuelled, burnout for fps, gameplay. I never played it for long enough because it’s late, I’m working tomorrow, and I should be in bed. Maybe I’ll fire it up again tomorrow to see how it plays. Scores on the magazine doors have been 8/10 so it should be good fun… for a while. I’m hopelessly addicted to PDZ on the 360 though. I should add… Black has two unreasonably long intros. Neither can be skipped.
