Halo 3

It’s out. I’ve got it. It’s great. I prefer the single player campaign to the multiplayer side of things, but then maybe that’s because I’m crap at the multiplayer aspect. In the one multiplayer game I played (1 vs 1 – Slayer), I got a kicking. Still, I did get the last kill, pictured below.

Funding the (gaming) habit

As Ian already mentioned in his blog, the next few weeks are proving to be a bumper month for AAA console game releases. I have a slightly different list, and unfortunately mine are all must haves (for me) whereas I’m sure Ian will give or take on his list. Coming to a 360 near me: Halo 3, Skate, Sega Rally, PGR4, Half Life 2: Orange Box, and thankfully futher out in November – Mass Effect. I may buckle at get PES on the PS3 instead of Sega Rally, but I doubt it.

I think I’ve played the Skate demo more than any other game this month… I suspect the full game will see more console time than Halo 3. It’s also a fact that generally I have a couple of hours per week to get some gaming time… such that I’ve barely scratched the surface of Bioshock (it’s not toddler friendly).

Anyway, to the title of the post. How do you fund your gaming habit. For me proud father and skint husband, I sold off every game I own (bar Bioshock, Tiger Woods 08, Motorstorm, and Forza 2. That’s some hefty instore credit at Blockbuster which funds 4 out of 5 of the immediate purchases. I don’t want to think what I’ll be selling off in November to fund the habit. They say the first step to a cure is admitting you have a problem. My name is zerolight. I’m an addict. ;)

The iMac’s Back

I got my iMac back from the Apple store on Friday. I’m very impressed with the service. I’d been having a few issues with the iMac as it approached the end of its warranty. First up was the LCD screen – shadowing was appearing in the top right corner, it looked like someone with very grubby fingers had been thumbing the screen. The other problem was the HDD which appeared to be failing – the iMac was getting very slow and was reporting disk errors which could only be repaired by booting off the install CD.

I dropped it at the Apple store on Monday afternoon and the screen and HDD had been replaced by Friday morning. All under warranty. The screen is better than ever, the Color Profile bug that plagues some Macs is now gone, and the iMac is as fast as the day I bought it, and much quieter than it’s been in a long time – guess I was right about that HDD. Speaking of Color Profiles, I can highly recommend calibrating the color profile (and setting the gamma and white balance to native) as it’s done wonders for the colours on my screen – the default iMac and Generic profiles were a bit washed out.
